Jim Burke, author of Reading Reminders: Tools, Tips, and Techniques and The English Teacher's Companion, has taught high school English for 13 years. His most recent books, Tools for Thought and Illuminating Texts: How to Teach Students to Read the World, further explore reading and those strategies that can help students succeed in high school. He was the recipient of the California Reading Association's Hall of Fame Award in 2001 and the Conference on English Leadership's exemplary English Leadership Award in 2000. He currently serves on the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards for English Language Arts.

Ron Klemp is the Coordinator of Reading for the Los Angeles Unified School District. He has taught reading, English, and social studies and was a middle school Dean of Discipline. He is also a coordinator/facilitator at the Secondary Practitioner Center, a professional development program in the Los Angeles Unified School District. He has been teaching at California State University, Northridge, Cal Lutheran University, and National University.

Wendell Schwartz
Adlai Stevenson High School, Lincolnshire, Illinois

Wendell Schwartz has been a teacher of English for 36 years. For the last 24 years he also has served as the Director of Communication Arts at Adlai Stevenson High School. He has taught gifted middle school students for the last 12 years, as well as teaching graduate level courses for National Louis University in Evanston, Illinois.
