![]() Here are some comments from teachers about the Reader's Handbook for grades 6-8. Reading Poetry Readers will be able to understand poetry in ways they never were able to before. Great job! Laurie Goodman Brenda Peterson A Reader's Handbook is an awesome source for across the curriculum disciplines. I like this particular unit because it gives educators the opportunity to offer students a variety of strategies to explore literature. It really is appropriate for middle school students to have the freedom to explore literature through cognitive reading. Sharon Williams Brenda Peterson Laurie Goodman The practical applications and the explanations of key terms will help the reader to understand key points. Using practical examples will help students to relate to focusing on language. The strategies are excellent for students. The "visual" examples will help the middle school students to focus on important elements. The graphic organizer for to recognize the major parts of the plot through story mapping is an excellent tool for middle school students. Sharon Williams Brenda Peterson If a student followed the plan outlined in this section, I would think they would find the strategies extremely helpful. This would be particularly true for those students who find word problems overwhelming. This seems very appropriate. The examples used to connect to the real world are age-appropriate. Explanations and examples are clear. Roberta Williams Shelly Fabozzi Lorraine Gerhart Michel Wendell Terri Huck This Reader's Handbook is appropriate for middle school students because it is more of a "hands on" handbook. The constant 'reminders' help keep the students motivated to read and learn. The strategies used in this book will aid students with the FCAT. Bold terms are defined. For example, the writer explains "equation' and variable. In addition, in FCAT, students have to explain in writing how the worked our or solved a problem step by step.
