As students prepare for the Ohio Graduation Test, they may need additional practice with skills and strategies in reading and writing. These specially developed reading and writing programs from Great Source target the skills and strategies necessary to perform successfully on the language arts portion of the OGT.

To assist teachers in using these programs, Great Source has developed four free instructional pacing guides that provide daily steps for implementation. These guides have been developed with careful attention to the Ohio Department of Education Language Arts Standards and represent four different implementation timeframes, from 3 weeks to 18 weeks. The plans represent a:

• 3-week pacing guide—a basic reading and writing strategies review
• 6-week pacing guide—addresses reading and writing strategies plus literary, narrative, expository and persuasive writing
• 9-week pacing guide—extension of the 6-week plan to allow for more in-depth review of each text type
• 18-week pacing guide—a full semester of language arts strategy instruction and review.

3-week plan Use this pacing guide to implement reading and writing instruction over 15 days. Each session can be completed in a 30-minute session.
