Personal Narrative: Writing

Remember - your first draft doesn't have to be perfect. You will have time to revise later.

Use a personal narrative template to create your first draft.

1. Beginning

Capture the reader's attention.
Lead up to your focus statement.

2. Middle

Write events in the order they occurred.
Use sensory details to make the experience vivid.
Show what happened instead of telling what happened.

3. Ending

Tell why the experience was important to you.
Wrap up the narrative.
