Plot Summary: Writing

Remind your students that the first draft doesn't have to be perfect. They will have time to revise later.

Students can use a plot summary template to create a first draft.

1. Beginning

Name the title and the author.
Give your focus statement.

2. Middle

Summarize the story, focusing on important events. Beginning, Event 1, Event 2, Event 3, Climax, Resolution.
Reflect on what the events in the plot mean.

3. Ending

Restate the focus.
Leave the reader with something to think about.
