Every Day Counts® Calendar Math
Proven effective in raising test scores in just 1015 minutes a day!
|
|
very Day Counts® is a research-based program aligned with the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) standards. In just 1015 minutes each day, Every Day Counts® provides daily exposure to critical math concepts such as place value, mental math, measurement, time, money, geometry, estimation, patterns and algebraic thinking, graphing, and statistics. Every Day Counts® appeals to the natural way children learn mathbuilding on concepts a little at a time, every day. Students have the entire year to explore critical concepts through multiple experiences giving them the opportunity to learn at their own pace over time. The continuous learning experience offered by the program has increased student math proficiency and test scores at many schools across the country. When used throughout a school, Every Day Counts® provides strong continuity to the math curriculum and builds upon key concepts from year to year.
Research
Every Day Counts® Calendar Math is based on best classroom practices for teaching mathematics that have been validated by scientific research. These practices include daily whole class discussion and dialogic discourse, the usage of real life data and visual models, continuous exposure to critical mathematical concepts, making connections across mathematical strands, offering students multiple points of entry, cooperative learning, developing number sense and computational fluency, the usage of informal learning and games, differentiating instruction, and ongoing assessment. The topics and challenges at each grade level of the Every Day Counts® Calendar Math program are aligned with the NCTM standards and build on what students learn in class with activities that engage students, allowing them to explore, make and test conjectures, and apply their mathematical understanding.

Evaluation and Assessment
Every Day Counts® provides a variety of tools to help teachers assess students’ understanding of math concepts. The Ongoing Assessment Booklet provides an organized list of suggested assessment questions for use with each month’s activities. The questions for each element are also provided in the Teacher’s Guide to help teachers gain insight into children’s developing mathematical thinking. This informal daily assessment helps teachers track students’ progress and tailor instruction. Every Day Counts® also provides four formal assessments in the Teacher’s Guide. These assessments are designed to monitor students’ progress throughout the yearpretest (to determine prior knowledge), winter and spring tests (to assess progress during the year), and post test (end-of-year evaluation).
Professional Development
Every Day Counts® Calendar Math workshops are created specifically for Pre-K6 teachers by the authors of the Every Day Counts® family of resources. Designed to make math rewarding for students and teachers alike, these interactive, grade-level specific 12 day workshops encourage immediate implementation of Every Day Counts® Calendar Math. Workshops are conducted throughout the year and can be customized to meet your school or district’s needs.
