Century Community Learning Center grants provide funding for before school and after school initiatives designed to advance student achievement, especially for students who attend high poverty or low performing schools. This grant is typically targeted to
1)
provide opportunities for academic enrichment to meet State standards in core academic subjects;
2)
offer additional recreational and cultural programs and activities;
3)
offer students' families opportunities for literacy and learning.
21st Century Community Learning Center Grants fund programs that enrich and extend the learning activities that take place in the school environment. These can include:
Structured academic enrichment programs, including acceleration and remediation
Mathematics and science activities
Tutoring services
Programs that emphasize language skills and academic achievement in reading, English/language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies for LEP students
Technology education programs
Extended library hours
Programs promoting parental involvement and literacy
Who is eligible?
Public schools designated as school-wide Title 1 or in Need of Improvement by the State Department of Educaiton (typically 40% identified as economically disadvantaged), or non-profit educational organizations and community-based organizations who partner with high-needs schools.
Funding Level:
$50,000 - $150,000 average award per center for a minimum of three years
