Dianne Feinstein

Dianne Feinstein is a U.S. senator from California.

Born on June 22, 1933, in San Francisco, Feinstein earned a B.A. in history from Stanford University in 1955. She is Jewish and is married to Richard Blum. They have four children and live in San Francisco.

From 1970–78, she served on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, five of those years as president, Feinstein was elected mayor of San Francisco in 1978. After serving for 10 years, Feinstein ran unsuccessfully for governor of California in 1990.

Elected to the U.S. Senate as a Democrat in a 1992 special election, Feinstein was reelected in 1994 and again in 2000 with almost 56 percent of the vote. She is the co-chair of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, Women's Council, and served on six congressional committees, including the Senate Judiciary Committee, the Senate Appropriations Committee, and the Energy and Natural Resources Committee.
